Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 20 Recap (Final)

uncontrollablyfond_20_12

Well. It’s now over. Fair warning before you click through: the ending matches the tone of the entire series, and even though so many things happen, it doesn’t really push forward very much. The beauty is in the introspection and the growth of the characters. And we get plenty of that in this episode.

Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 19 Recap

UncontrollablyFond_19_21

Okay seriously, this isn’t an amazing episode that’s breaking any sorts of K-drama barriers. It’s also not a fast-paced, “holy crap we’re hurtling to the end and it’s wrapping up really quick” kind of episode. Instead, it’s an episode that keeps wringing my heart because freaking Jin Kyung and Yoo Oh Sung are fantastic actors who convey the pain and shock of seeing their son mentally deteriorate before their very eyes. And their performance affects Kim Woo Bin’s performance, making him even more outstanding than he’s been in the last five or six episodes. What the heck, Show.

Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 18 Recap

Okay, we’re getting somewhere again. We’re wrapping up the story without rushing things too much. The only thing that’s a bit accelerated is Hyun Joon’s revenge on Joon Young, but everything else I think is right on track. If only all the events in this episode happened last week though, that would have been nice.

Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 17 Recap

FINALLY we’re getting somewhere! Of course, it happens in the last fifteen minutes of the show, but I’ll take it! I actually felt my heart race again for Joon Young, which had disappeared for quite a while. I like it when he is cool – without having to act cool.

Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 16 Recap

So, some progress. But ohmigod this week is just dragging its feet! I can’t be fully satisfied with this week’s episodes, and can only wish that this series were only 16 episodes or 18 episodes long. By being 20 episodes, the writer is really forcing us as viewers to dwell in the feelings of all the characters. The problem is, what if we stop caring about these characters? All we want is the story to move along faster.

Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 13 Recap

So we’re gonna jump around in the timeline a bit because there were a lot of questions that I had after episode 12, and it seems the writer decided it’s time to fill in some gaps. Not that the gaps were terribly hard to figure out anyways. There’s also some movement in No Eul and Joon Young’s romance, as we see just how far they will go to protect their feelings for each other.

Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 12 Recap

UncontrollablyFond_12_33

Somewhere along the line in this episode, I felt like I missed something. As if the writer was in such a rush to get to the next phase of the drama when previously, she was taking her time and unfolding the story bit by bit. There were parts where I did celebrate the progress, but I was mostly left scratching my head. In any case, much happens in episode 12. Almost too much.

Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 11 Recap

Man this was a beautiful episode. And I don’t mean it in the plot sense – plot wise, it was pretty straightforward and slow. No, I mean it was cinematically beeeeyouuuuuteefulllll. I mean, in the levels of I was lusting over the lighting and slow camera close-ups. (Let me just add that I don’t watch previews of dramas so I have no idea what’s upcoming in this show.)
