The shot is from Rain’s new film “Red Muffler,” which has now changed its title to “Take Off: Closer to the Sun.” What a cheesy title. I wonder if the people behind the film are trying to tie it in to the other film called “Take Off,” the 2009 movie about a ski jumping team for the Olympics, starring Ha Jung Woo and Kim Ji Suk. That sports film was a hit.
Anyways – thoughts of “Top Gun” filled my mind after seeing the photo, which might be a good thing for the film in general – but it’s not going to make me want to see it. I’m a Tom Cruise-averse person.
Kim Kang Woo is now a father! His wife, Han Mu Young (the older sister of Han Hye Jin) gave birth to a healthy baby boy on the afternoon of April 27 (Korea time). Whaaa – married in June, and baby in April! This is one happy family indeed – congrats!
Well – duh they tweet, but they also tweet a couple of new photos. Uhm Tae Woong’s tweet caught my attention because he’s become my fave/ most-adorbs personality on 2 Days 1 Night. And I enjoy how quickly it seems he’s cottoned on to the rest of the gang, including a tweet about Kim Jong Min‘s new personal album.
The poster for Best Love is out! And oh my goodness – Yoon Kye Sang is yummy! I feel like he’s rocking a Park Shi Hoo vibe here (hence my attraction?!) Gong Hyo Jin is cute with her whimsical pose, and Cha Seung Won is…well, that man needs a serious lesson in learning how to let go.
Wonder Girls have pretty much disappeared from my mind; if they came out with a new single, I don’t think I was very interested in it. Their activities in the US have certainly made them stray far from the K-pop scene in Korea, and yet their photo spread in Teen Vogue labels them as “queen bees” of K-pop. It’s all marketing, I tell ya.
I think it’s the make-up, but it’s sad to see how much these girls have aged – they look far older than I think they should be.
As if it weren’t enough to have Eun Jung on King Geunchogo, the production also hired her group memberQri to play the spunky princess Yeojin. Eun Jung’s husband will be portrayed by Supernova’s Geonil. I guess the whole second generation will now be overrun with idol stars, eh?
This isn’t Qri’s first time on a historical drama – she played Young Mo in Queen Seon Deok, the young wife of Kim Yushin (Uhm Tae Woong). That series I tried summarizing and failed miserably – I haven’t been able to finish because it’s so long! But honestly, all that happened was Queen Seon Deok would have a plan; it would be usurped by Mishil; Bidam and Yushin would do their best to reverse it; Seon Deok wins. If there was a war, betrayals would run amok as everyone’s double crossing each other.
And great Scott! Chris Columbus (the director of Harry Potter and Home Alone, not the explorer) announced that he will bought the rights to Cha Tae Hyun’s comedy film “Hello Ghost.” The movie just came out last year, and now it’s going to be remade for American audiences. Great. Just great. Wow. I’m sooo frickin’ happy.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not (although I’m not sure how you can’t notice,) but there’s been a crazy short hair phenomenon that I’m not sure is the trend for 2011 dramas or what.
The whole Short Hair Wave is not new – celebs have all been turning to short hair for that new “fresh” look because it’s the easiest way to have a makeover without plastic surgery. Har har. But lately, I’ve noticed that a lot of Korean actresses have been sporting short hair for their roles. It’s not new, but it’s more apparent now that a lot of those pixie-haired actresses are in back-to-back dramas.
This is the first news bits for the new year! Wow.
Anyways – good news for Rain – he was finally cleared of embezzlement charges. A fabric manufacturing company had sued him claiming that his fashion company J.Tune Creative had embezzled their money. However, prosecutors found the fabric company’s allegations as false.
That doesn’t mean that all is in the clear – since in a completely different matter, two officials at J.Tune Entertainment embezzled 900 million won to acquire a larger stake in the company.
But Rain has pretty much wiped his hands clean from the matter – he sold off all his shares and recently askedJYP to step in and take charge.
Here’s a little update on the current status of dramas I am watching:
Runaway Plan B: Saw the end. I think this drama requires better, sit down, marathon viewing the moment I get on a holiday. I need to give it more attention than just skimming it. Either way, still think Daniel Henney is lame – his character I mean.
Queen of Reversals: Stuck at episode 6. Will move forward the moment Harvest Villa is done. The extension makes me move more slowly. Speaking of which…
Harvest Villa: Up to episode 11 (yay! Moved one episode forward!) and will be watching more. Am loving the mystery around Lee Bo Young‘s character. Finding it amusing that the two brothers are always in the middle of some mystery involving Bok Kyu and Seo Rin.
Secret Garden: Episodes 11-12 were a snooze fest. Really. But based on recaps, episode 13-14 seem to bring the momentum back. Am glad to hear that there is another body swap – if the selling point before the drama aired was the body swap, then you gotta make the most of it!
ATHENA: Please don’t disappoint!
But the preview above of next week’s episode shows BoA making her guest appearance. They really don’t waste any time with the cameos, do they? If only they could move the storyline faster! I wonder how BoA will tie in to the storyline, since the main arc is still about the elusive Kim Myung Guk and his nuclear technology.
