I debated for a while on whether I should write up this post. I mean, come on – every other Kdrama blogging site is doing one. Or, the ones I read do. I also admittedly have skimmed through a lot. Yes. Skim.
I have to say that 2010 was a big year for me in terms of dramas. I have never worked so closely with dramas before, and recapping is a pure joy. As I was compiling the list, I realized that I saw more dramas than I ever have in my entire life. Some were not to completion, and some were fleeting. But I included them in the list because I get to explain why I didn’t continue a certain drama. I also realized that I watched a LOT of SBS dramas. I also saw a lot of dramas that were not made or released in 2010, but more like catching up.
So here goes, a review of dramas I saw that came out in 2010 – the good, the meh, and the bad.
YAYYYY – Birdie Buddy has an air date! I’m not excited because I want to watch the drama. It’s just that, I’m mildly curious as to how UEE will portray a non-bitchy role, and I’m mildly empathetic to the cast and crew who have been working hard and not hearing anything about a broadcast date.
But here goes – the broadcast date is set for March 2011.
They will continue with production throughout November and December, thus becoming a pre-produced drama.
I did not get a Prosecutor Princess Director’s Cut DVD. 😦
But! Thanks to sweet ccandrea at soompi, who posted up Chinese translations of interviews with Park Shi Hoo and Kim So Yeon, we all get a chance to see what they said!
The following is just a summary of the entire interview, as I am too embarrassed to put up my translation. But if you want to read the entire interview in Chinese, click here, and if you want to read the full translated transcript (albeit with flaws), click here.
Playful Kiss revealed posters AND a trailer for the drama. While the posters are so… sparkly? the trailer is immensely cute. It made me somewhat curious to watch the drama – whereas before, if I didn’t watch this drama I wouldn’t have cared less.
Prosecutor Princess also released it’s Director’s Cut DVD! It’s a pretty package with plenty of goodies (all thanks to fervent fans who insisted on getting a few more hours with their precious Kim So Yeon and Park Shi Hoo). I didn’t get one, as I had blown all my money on a You’re Beautiful DVD set, but boy am I jealous… I would love some more Park Shi Hoo. The extras include behind the scenes, NG’s, cast and crew interviews, and other stuff – but it’s not subtitled. Only the drama is subtitled. (Time to brush up your Korean!) Unlike You’re Beautiful, it seems that you can still order this special edition DVD (whereas the former had to be ordered by a certain time period).
Min Young Won is the actress you should know, but may never notice. She has acted as side characters in Boys Over Flowers, Shining Inheritance, and Prosecutor Princess (in the last two, she played the sidekick best friend).
But now she’s making news because she’s supposedly dating a Dubai prince, and he proposed to her. He supposedly flew out to Korea repeatedly to meet her and fell in love with her. However, Min’s agency denies these reports and says they’re just friends.
Here’s what I think: the Dubai prince is a true K-drama addict who deluded himself into thinking that he’s in love with Min, and Min probably met him once or twice, but does not think too much of him. They’re not friends, but probably more like acquaintances.
If you don’t love Park Shi Hoo now, you should after this:
As a thank you gift to the staff of Prosecutor Princess he treated them to a four-day, three-night vacation on Jeju Island. It was his way of sharing the love he had received from fans, and giving the hardworking staff some relaxation time. AHHH! Me want some of that love too!!!! (aaaaaand *fangirly kaedejun out*)
Second most important insight? She had the hardest time filming the fat suit scene for the drama. Too bad they didn’t ask again what was the most memorable scene, of which I’d hope she would say the kiss scene in episode 13.
