Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji Woo were the two biggest stars of Hallyu, introducing Korean dramas to all over with their landmark classic drama Winter Sonata. They’re the top dog, even if they may not have as prolific a filmography as some other Korean actors we know.
I debated for a while on whether I should write up this post. I mean, come on – every other Kdrama blogging site is doing one. Or, the ones I read do. I also admittedly have skimmed through a lot. Yes. Skim.
I have to say that 2010 was a big year for me in terms of dramas. I have never worked so closely with dramas before, and recapping is a pure joy. As I was compiling the list, I realized that I saw more dramas than I ever have in my entire life. Some were not to completion, and some were fleeting. But I included them in the list because I get to explain why I didn’t continue a certain drama. I also realized that I watched a LOT of SBS dramas. I also saw a lot of dramas that were not made or released in 2010, but more like catching up.
So here goes, a review of dramas I saw that came out in 2010 – the good, the meh, and the bad.
It’s not a cameo appearance for the drama, although it would have been awesome if he did show up. (I haven’t seen the last two episodes yet, so no spoilers! And if he is in the crowd watching the Comeback Madonna Band, then that’d be funny!)
I am mighty excited and curious to see how this drama is going to end. But then again, I’m also mighty excited to watch Kim So Yeon next week in Dr. Champ, and based on the previews that they’ve attached at the end of I Am Legend, it looks interesting and fun.
But anyways – to kick off the last week (and Chuseok) here are a bunch of photos from their last concert! It looks like it was also raining during the shoot.
Oh – and Heechul from Super Junior is guesting on episode 15 as a radio DJ who is also a fan of the gals.
It’s September! New month – new start – and definitely new dramas!
For example, this week, Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Playful Kiss both premiered this week. I am itching to watch the first two episodes – probably this weekend – unless life gets in the way again.
But on to News Bits (which will be short)! Choi Seung Hyun (or T.O.P. – but I will refer to him by his real name when it comes to his acting chops in “Into the Fire”) is rumored to snag the Rookie Award at the 2010 Movie Awards. His performance was so strong that if he does win, he will be the first singer-from-an-idol-group-turned-actor to win one. And boy do I want him to win!
Hey Clint Eastwood! Hire Choi in your next movie!!!
And to end the summer – Lee Byung Hoon‘s entertainment company just announced that he will NOT be starring in IRIS 2. That doesn’t mean ATHENA, by the way, in case anyone’s confused. (Who’s confused? I’m not confused!)
So not only is he not appearing in the spin-off, but he’s not appearing in the sequel (which is slated to air in 2011). Can we then assume that his character [SPOILER] is dead [END SPOILER]? If so, oh mighty gods I rejoice!!!!!! Call me mean, but seriously – I’d be glad if that were the case.
First of all – I Am Legend just may get a musical version! While it’s still unconfirmed on whether it will happen or not, the musical version would work sort of like “Mamma Mia,” where the music will form the basis for the story. It’s possible that they will take the drama’s story and shorten it (I would prefer that), or to take the songs and the characters, but change the story.
I was so psyched for this drama to come out, even though I wasn’t a Kim Jung Eun fan. And guess what? I’m still psyched, and I’m loving Kim Jung Eun in this role!
I don’t want to go into a recap mode, since you can easily read it on dramabeans. I’d rather just give my impressions of the characters in the drama, and where I think it’s going to go.
I am putting up waaaay too many photos right now. 😀 These photos come from the press conference for I Am Legend. The drama already started airing (although in US time, it hasn’t yet), but it’s only releasing the press conference photos. Once I get snippets of the interview, I’ll add them here.
I get that they’re going for the rocker-edgy look, which works on Kim Jung Eun. Hong Ji Min’s dress is a little too stylish for “edgy,” and Jyu Ni totally dresses her age (but doesn’t pull off knee-high stockings too well). Jang Shin Young is the only one I really like – rocker vibe with class. As for Lee Joon Hyuk – he is HOT. I like that T-shirt/suit ensemble he’s got going on.
