Ack! I just finished watching Secret Gardenepisode 17, and GAH – TEARJERKER! OK, I realize that certain parts of it were pretty sappy, no lie, but when you put a great male actor like Hyun Bin in front of me, crying his eyes out, I can’t help but want to cry too. Not that I did, I’m just saying I wanted to.
Anyways – the scene in the hospital? BEST SCENE EVER. Why? Because it just put all the actors (save the mother) in one place at one time, acting their hearts out. And to be hit with all that at once is just overwhelming.
After reading this interview with Jung Woo Sung, I love the man even more. There’s a reason why he works on quality movies than on TV shows – this man is truly interested in the entertainment industry for the craft, and not for the perks of fame and fortune. I also love how he criticizes his character (slightly) on ATHENA. His character is not really the ideal agent because he’s so “normal,” and to hear that coming from Jung’s mouth is a tad refreshing.
This man got skills! Writers – what the hell are you doing giving him lame lines!?
This is the first news bits for the new year! Wow.
Anyways – good news for Rain – he was finally cleared of embezzlement charges. A fabric manufacturing company had sued him claiming that his fashion company J.Tune Creative had embezzled their money. However, prosecutors found the fabric company’s allegations as false.
That doesn’t mean that all is in the clear – since in a completely different matter, two officials at J.Tune Entertainment embezzled 900 million won to acquire a larger stake in the company.
But Rain has pretty much wiped his hands clean from the matter – he sold off all his shares and recently askedJYP to step in and take charge.
Here’s a little update on the current status of dramas I am watching:
Runaway Plan B: Saw the end. I think this drama requires better, sit down, marathon viewing the moment I get on a holiday. I need to give it more attention than just skimming it. Either way, still think Daniel Henney is lame – his character I mean.
Queen of Reversals: Stuck at episode 6. Will move forward the moment Harvest Villa is done. The extension makes me move more slowly. Speaking of which…
Harvest Villa: Up to episode 11 (yay! Moved one episode forward!) and will be watching more. Am loving the mystery around Lee Bo Young‘s character. Finding it amusing that the two brothers are always in the middle of some mystery involving Bok Kyu and Seo Rin.
Secret Garden: Episodes 11-12 were a snooze fest. Really. But based on recaps, episode 13-14 seem to bring the momentum back. Am glad to hear that there is another body swap – if the selling point before the drama aired was the body swap, then you gotta make the most of it!
ATHENA: Please don’t disappoint!
But the preview above of next week’s episode shows BoA making her guest appearance. They really don’t waste any time with the cameos, do they? If only they could move the storyline faster! I wonder how BoA will tie in to the storyline, since the main arc is still about the elusive Kim Myung Guk and his nuclear technology.
A photo spamazz of ATHENA – ’cause you know I can’t resist it.
The photos are primarily of Su Ae and Lee Ji Ah from episodes 1 and 3. In Su Ae‘s photos, it appears that she’s getting ready to do her flying kick when she attacks one of the black ops agents in Hawaii and knocks him unconscious in an elevator. For Lee Ji Ah, her photos come from her vicious fight with baddie Victor in the basements of a stadium.
I debated for a while on whether I should write up this post. I mean, come on – every other Kdrama blogging site is doing one. Or, the ones I read do. I also admittedly have skimmed through a lot. Yes. Skim.
I have to say that 2010 was a big year for me in terms of dramas. I have never worked so closely with dramas before, and recapping is a pure joy. As I was compiling the list, I realized that I saw more dramas than I ever have in my entire life. Some were not to completion, and some were fleeting. But I included them in the list because I get to explain why I didn’t continue a certain drama. I also realized that I watched a LOT of SBS dramas. I also saw a lot of dramas that were not made or released in 2010, but more like catching up.
So here goes, a review of dramas I saw that came out in 2010 – the good, the meh, and the bad.
DBSK – but really just Yunho and Changmin – have released the music video to their single in the ATHENA OST, titled “Athena.” Haha – so original.
Anyways – the song is definitely fast – but kinda pop-y. It doesn’t have the grittiness that Big Bang‘s “Hallelujah” had, but then again – I didn’t like “Hallelujah” too much. The scenes from the MV showcase the upcoming episodes, especially when the agents are all in Italy and trying to get Lee Bo Young. I gasped at the incredible athleticism of Choi Siwon, was bug-eyed at the hard core determination of Lee Jia (whom I am now convinced is supposed to be Kim So Yeon-lite in some respects, especially when she wears a short hair wig), impressed by the utter coldness of Su Ae as she kills someone and lets the blood splatter her neck, and SPAZZED TEN MILLION TIMES when I saw Sean Richard for like, less than a second. Yes – this man whom I’ve only seen in Jejoongwon wearing atrocious facial hair and a weird coif – I am in love with him all cleaned up and steely eyed.
It has been announced that DBSK will participate on the ATHENA OST. Interesting – I thought they broke up and had too many issues to get back together and make a song. It is said that the group will reunite in January, so I’m clearly wrong. Their song will be a fast, upbeat insert song, which I’m looking forward too since I think ATHENA has enough ballads. Like the latest one from Brown Eyed Soul – the MV for “Put It Back” is the video above.
I find it insanely hilarious that one comment on dramabeans can spark countless of questions – such as the wondering of whether I will be recapping ATHENA. I laugh. It definitely brightened up my day. Nevertheless – of course I watched it. Raw. And goodness gracious it’s so exciting! I hope my excitement didn’t blind my viewing of it, so I will need to watch episode 2 to figure it out. Until then…wheee!
In a bit of meta (I guess), Yoon Sang Hyun will be releasing his first full length Japanese album next year on February 16. Much like his character in Secret Garden, who is trying to release an album but is getting riddled with plagiarism controversies. Let’s hope Yoon’s real album doesn’t have those problems. For Hallyu stars, I guess life must imitate art at some point… (and yes, I refer to Choi Ji Woo‘s last drama A Star’s Lover).
Update on Harvest Villa – I progressed three episodes and am now on episode 10! Yay! I like it more and more, especially because of the humor, the confusion, the faux-dramatic music, and the mystery. I like the mystery in Harvest Villa infinitely more than I did in Joseon X Files, mainly because in Joseon X Files, the mysteries were mostly one-episode cases, and though they did have an overarching connection, it was very different than the way Harvest Villa has its mini mysteries among each character and the overarching connection about the gold. I like digging deep underneath the layers as I get to know the characters in a series, rather than just in one episode.
