Hwang Jung Eum is back to star in hilariously crazy romantic comedy after She Was Pretty and getting married. It’s called Lucky Romance, and not surprisingly it’s based on a webtoon.
Lucky Romance follows a young woman who believes in superstition and fortune tellers. She learns from a fortune-teller that she needs to sleep with a male virgin born in 1986 soon, or else she will die. Sounds a tad Oh My Ghostess-y, no? Except she’s not dead. However when the woman is about to be kicked out from her apartment (because she hasn’t paid rent) she learns that her young landlord fits her criteria exactly. Bingo!
Except he doesn’t believe in sex before marriage.
Hijinks ensue. I assume.
Hwang Jung Eum has really made a name for herself playing kooky and out there characters. I feel like a bit of her personality is imbued with each character she’s played in the past few years, because she plays them all so similarly. Loud, brash, over-reactive, and clumsy. But that’s not a bad thing; she knows what she’s good at and rocks it. So I can imagine that her character in this drama won’t be too different from how she was in She Was Pretty. In which case it means that this could be a fun ride.
And that would be nice, considering that this drama is slated after the melodrama-thriller Goodbye Mr. Black. It will air on May 11 on MBC, every Wednesday and Thursdays. The drama will be directed by Kim Kyung Hee, who did Gloria and Hero (the drama with Lee Jun Ki). In fact, all of Kim Kyung Hee’s dramas are from MBC, so it seems like she’s one of their resident in-house directors. No word on who her leading man is, but I’m sure it’ll be announced in the coming weeks.
