Lee Byung Hun is pretty (in)famous for those who know about his crazy, somewhat salacious personal life. In the States, he’s nothing but the token bad guy in blockbuster action movies. Not that that is a bad thing, as he is getting so much recognition and doing so well in Hollywood compared to some of his contemporaries. In any case, his new film Terminator Genisys (and no, I’m not misspelling it) is hopefully going to catapult him into greater stardom because it’s putting out a 30-second trailer on Super Bowl.
So not sure if anyone knows what my real job is. Gasp, you don’t watch K-dramas all day?! I watch quite a fair amount of K-dramas, but I’m also an editor. Video editor, podcast editor, my family’s personal movie editor… And I’m really happy to say that I’m part of this new podcast team called Something Sunshine headed up by my friends Ahnmin Lee and Bobby Lin.
Is it bad that I think of Yeon Woo Jin as a little kid every time I see him, even though he’s 30 now? Yes, he’s thirty, and look at that face! This baby-faced actor will star opposite Jo Yeo Jung in the upcoming SBS drama Divorce Lawyers in Love.
Hyde, Jekyll and I – which switched from the shorter title Jekyll and I to the longer version – was surprisingly charming for me. It hit the right notes and reminded me of My Love From Another Star in certain aspects. I think it also helped that I generally liked Cheongdamdong Alice, and since the writer Kim Ji Woon is on this drama as well it doesn’t feel too far off from her style for her sophomore outing as a main screenwriter.
I’ve got high hopes for this drama. (Some spoilers, for episodes 1-2.)
And a real man he is! Looks like Birth of a Beauty star, and my favorite boy-toy, Jung Gyu Woon is going to take part in the reality show Real Men. He’s already part of another variety show called Eco Village, where celebrities build houses for those in need. Guess he just needs another place to show off those muscles!
With Blood gearing up for a premiere on February 16, it’s no wonder there’s a bunch of stills and teasers released already for its main characters, played by Gu Hye Sun, Ahn Jae Hyun, and Ji Jin Hee. The teasers have a flair that is very reminiscent of Vampire Prosecutor, and if it follows a similar tone then I’m all down for it. I don’t mind copycats – as long as they do it well.
Variety shows about stars living together is so 2014. Now it’s about stars dating each other! Looks like Kim Ji Hoon (Flower Boy Next Door) is joining the cast for a new variety show about 30-40-something-year-old celebrities going on blind dates. I think the title is a mix of Kong-lish, and could roughly translate as Some Guys, Some Girls (썸남썸녀). Make what you will of the title, still sounds like an interesting premise.
It’s a new year, and a new awards season! Okay, I have to admit I haven’t really been following the Academy Awards/Golden Globes/SAG awards in the States, though I hear about snubs and lucky nominees. (The Lego Movie – how could thou be snubt!?) In any case, it’s a busy time for dramas too! And I’m happy to say that I’m attending the DramaFever Awards again!
