A new drama is in the works, and it involves Cha Seung Won, Lee Yeon Hee, and Seo Kang Joon. The three actors have been approached to appear in a 2015 MBC drama Hwajung, a historical fantasy drama set in Joseon dynasty.
So far, Cha Seung Won and Lee Yeon Hee are confirmed to star in the drama, while Seo Kang Joon has been the latest addition who is reportedly considering the offer. Cha is up for the role of King Gwanghae, which is interestingly the role that Seo In Gook is currently portraying in The King’s Face. While Seo In Gook portrays Gwanghae as an earnest prince who’s trying to better the lives of the people, it seems that Cha will be showing a different side to this king. The drama will show Gwanghae as the usurper of his younger brother Yeong Chang’s place in the line of succession, and pitting him against his half-sister Jung Myung (Lee Yeon Hee). Because of his disagreements with Jung Myung, he casts her out as a commoner. Meanwhile, Seo Kang Joon is looking into the role of Hong Joo Won, the first son of a noble family who will develop a love line with Jung Myung. For a relatively new actor, Seo Kang Joon is making leaps and bounds with the types of roles he’s taking on, from high school student to a chaebol and now to a historical chaebol. It’s kind of impressive, and I hope this drama helps him grow even more as an actor. Also cast is the delightful Lee Sung Min stars as a prime minister in court.
The drama reunites Lee Yeon Hee and Lee Sung Min, both of whom were in Miss Korea earlier this year, with Kim Sang Ho, who had produced Miss Korea as well and directed Arang and the Magistrate and Can You Hear My Heart. Now Kim Sang Ho will take on the directorial reins in Hwajung along with Kim Yi Young (Dong Yi, Horse Doctor) as the writer. The drama will also be 50-episodes long, but considering who the writer is, I would presume that the drama is in good hands.
Hwajung is set to air in 2015 on MBC after Shine or Go Crazy, which will air after Pride and Prejudice.
