Second time in Seoul – ever! And I marked it with a visit to the Studio Ghibli exhibition and more food than ever before. This time I was taken around to the good places to eat, so none of that random “duck into random restaurants and hope for the best” type of thing – not that that isn’t a good plan either. It’s just this time I got to experience really good Korean food from people who told me it was the best.
And desserts. Lots and lots of desserts.
SEOLLANGTANG – BEEF BONE SOUP FROM A RESTAURANT THAT’S 100 YEARS OLD. AND HOMEMADE KIMCHI THAT WAS AMAZING!
(Where: Yi Mun Seolleongtang in Insadong, behind the Center Mark Hotel)
FRESH POMEGRANATE JUICE FROM THE STREET IN MYEONG-DONG, WHERE EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO EAT CAN BE FOUND THERE.
INJEOLMI TOAST WITH MISUGARU DRINK AND CITRON TEA. BASICALLY THE TOAST HAD THE MISUGARU POWDER IN IT AND A LAYER OF MOCHI INSIDE.
(Where: Sul Bing Korean Dessert Cafe in Myeong-dong. I think they have several locations throughout Seoul though.)
BIBIMBAP! FOLLOWED BY A MILK MILLE CREPE FROM BILLY ANGEL.
(Where: I’Park Mall, as we were visiting the Studio Ghibli Exhibit that day too.)
GREEN TEA AFFOGATO IN ACTION FROM A TWOSOME PLACE – THE COFFEE SHOP THAT LEE MIN HO IS A SPOKESPERSON FOR.
(Where: A Twosome Place, found everywhere and easily spotted with Lee Min Ho’s face. This particular one was near Gwanghwamun.)
SAMCHEONGDONG SUJEBI – RICE DOUGH FLAKES AND SOUP. THIS WAS QUITE THE LARGE AND DEEP POT OF SUJEBI, BUT SO DELICIOUS.
(Where: Samcheongdong Sujebi in Samcheong-dong.)
AND NOW FOR STREET FOOD SNACKS: HOTTEOK (NOT AS GOOD AS BUSAN’S), STRAWBERRY MOCHI WITH RED BEAN PASTE, AND FRENCH FRY-CORN DOG.
(Where: Again, on the streets of Myeong-dong.)
ABALONE TART FROM A MICHELIN-RATED BAKERY WITHIN LOTTE DEPARTMENT STORE IN MYEONGDONG.
KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN! THE CHICKEN WAS NOT AS CRISPY OR AS GOOD AS I HAD EXPECTED, BUT THEN AGAIN WHILE TRANSPORTING IT FROM THE RESTAURANT TO THE HOTEL IT DEFINITELY GOT SOGGY. LESSON LEARNED: CALL IN DELIVERY. DON’T PICK IT UP.
(Where: Two Two Chicken in Myeong-dong, by Pacific Hotel.)
WITH DRINKS OF COURSE… CHIMAK TIME!!
There’s so many pictures of food, I need to do a part 2!
