Posters for Choi Si Won, Jackie Chan’s New Movie

Choi Si Won is looking seriously bad ass for his upcoming film “Dragon Blade,” in which he costars with Jackie Chan, John Cusack, and Adrien Brody.

“Dragon Blade” is a historical action romp in which a Chinese commander Huo An (Jackie Chan) and a Roman general Lucius (John Cusack) join forces to protect the Western regions of the Roman Empire and maintain China’s sovereignty. The power-hungry Tiberius (Adrien Brody) chases after Lucius with 100,000 troops when Lucius saves a prince. As crazy as the film sounds in concept, it’s actually based on real life ruins and Roman descendants found in Liqian village in Gansu province. Gansu is pretty much in the middle/northwest of China, which means the Roman empire had really far-reaching borders during the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD).

Lin Peng (“Little Big Soldier,” “1911”) and Amanda “Mika” Wang (“If You are the One”/”Feichang Wu Rao”, Remembering Li Chuan) also star as Jackie Chan’s love interests. Wow, he really gets those girls. Lin Peng has already been in two films with Jackie Chan, having started her career in “Little Big Soldier” opposite him and Wang Lee Hom. I’m personally a bit surprised at John Cusack’s participation in this film. I find him becoming more and more Keanu Reeves-like where they have reached a stage in their career where they take on more action roles and star in films that are less well-known or marketed.

The film will be released on February 19, 2015 in IMAX 3D, which is Chinese New Year. With a production budget of $65 million dollars, it has one of the largest budgets for Chinese films of all time. I hope this film ends up being good instead of being an excuse for fighting and action.
