Seoul Adventures: Day 1

My life is complete because I saw Jang Geun Suk. Who cares about Kim Hyun Joong, Song Joong Ki, Yoona, and JYJ when you got THIS GUY?!

I also saw a Park Shi Hoo commercial on the subway TVs. I died. He even had to change his shirt onscreen. I propose that he have a shirtless scene in The Princess’ Man – one that is completely unnecessary but totally necessary for me.

This time difference thing is throwing me off too. I’m technically on Day 2, but home is on Day 1. Anyways…

Several observations – Seoul is intensely hot and muggy. Underground malls are cooler than some market places. Insadong is really nice, Myeongdong is hip, Namdaemun Road is fancy, and Namdaemun Market is overrated.

Also – getting lost is awesome. Getting lost and then having your feet die by the end of the day isn’t.

Random news bits before the pictures:

  • Go So Young‘s grandmother passed away, and she and hubby Jang Dong Gun attended her funeral. (source: newsen)
  • Danggit – why are Sean and Jung Hye Young’s babies the cutest things in the world? Not fair that the best genes go to them; proof is in their newest daughter’s picture. (source: star news)
  • Choi Si Won looking fine in uniform. (source: star news)
  • Kwon Sang Woo will star in Hollywood film that hasn’t been named yet because it’s supposedly from a famous “Hollywood production company.” That sounds so sketchy. His agency also reported that his name will be the headliner. My reaction? (……….) Meanwhile, Christian Bale might star in the “Old Boy” remake helmed by Spike Lee. Oh man – if he accepts the role, this would be great. Like REALLY great. If only the article knew that he was “Christian” and not “Christine”… (source: asiae)
  • As for “You’re My Pet” costars – Kim Ha Neul parts ways from her agency J.One Plus, and Jang Geun Suk will cameo in the Japanese version of You’re Beautiful. Japanese-Go Mi Nam looks like Park Shin Hye too! (source: asiae)
  • Drama round up – I saw Ohjakgyo Brothers, A Thousand Kisses, My Love By My Side, and a flash of Scent of a Woman before I was knocked out like heck. AMAZING how much I could understand without knowing much Korean. UEE is awesome and Ohjakgyo is kinda amusing. My Love By My Side showed a different Lee So Yeon but I was too lost in the story because I think it progressed too far already. Nevertheless, it had Kim! Mi! Sook! A Thousand Kisses was only interesting whenever it focused on Ji Hyun Woo’s storyline – and it’s only the beginning so I caught on with the story pretty quickly. It’s actually kind of interesting. And Scent of a Woman? I saw as much as Kim Sun Ah and Uhm Ki Joon dancing the tango (don’t know if it’s a flashback or not) and suddenly I was out like a lightbulb. Sorry – that drama was on too late for me.
  • And now pictures!
Oh and one gripe – I learned pretty quickly that I need to speak up really loudly despite being super not confident in my Korean. I wanted 물 냉면 and the lady thought she was being smarter than me (because I’m a foreigner) and gave me 만두국 instead. I’m a foreigner, but I know my Korean food. Was highly dissatisfied (although the food was good) and remained on the hunt for  물 냉면 all day.
Lee Soon Shin monument. I just keep thinking of Jung Gyu Woon in Romance Town.
The awesome King Sejong.
Photo op!
Gwanghwamun Gate.
Gyeongbukgung Palace
Changing of the guards. Happens every hour.
Seoul Museum of History – saved me because it had AC and I finally got a map of Seoul! I would no longer get lost! Or so I thought…
The Hammering Man sculpture. He hammers! (That sounds lamer than it really is…)
Jonggak Underground Mall. I love this place. I LOVE IT.
Ssamzie-Gil in Insadong. Really pretty…
The infamous MandooGuk.
Myeongdong!
Myeongdong Cathedral. I prayed that I wouldn’t get lost so much.
Can’t get enough of Yoochun? How about Geun Suk? or Hyun Bin?
Cheonggyecheon – a stream in the middle of Seoul.
Itaewon.
Naengmyun! Finally!
With UEE on the side.

  1. Omg looks like you’re having an awesome time! I’m so envious right now but hopefully will get to visit Seoul next year! For now I’ll have to be content with living vicariously through your posts 🙂

  2. Please continue to comment on what you’ve enjoyed since I will be visiting South Korea in June
2012. I’m weary of the jet lag, since it will be a 20 hr. flight for me,so if youhave any suggestions, please do share. Have a great time. Don’t forget korean BBQ so you can report if it’s any different from what I have tasted on my trips to the U.S.,

  3. I.AM.SO.ENVIOUS… looking forward to more news bits about your trip… take care… don’t forget the sunblock (if its too hot there)…

  4. Yayy, looks like you’re having a fabulous time! ^^ I actually love KHJ (more as Leader of SS501 :P), but it’s alright– once you said PARK SI HOO, i’m back in. ;P Enjoy your time in Korea while you can! I hope you can visit some drama locations while you’re there. Hehhhh.

  5. hee, i just came back from korea a few days ago myself & i hv not upload my pics. U are fast. I missed seeing all those Won bin’s face from all those tv ads…

  6. Kaede, I’m so lost, did you saw JGS and the others actors in person or in ads, cfs and on tv? Because I’m really confused. Sorry for being dense xD

  7. Man, you are making me miss Korea more than I already am with these pictures. I was standing on that very spot in Myeongdong, looking up at the cathedral and flipping out just a little (since YB filmed there) just last summer. I hope to be there again next summer, too. ^_^ In the meantime, thanks for sharing!

  8. OMG! you’re so lucky to be touring around Seoul! I so envy you!
How I wish I could go there myself and visit the most remarkable places there (by remarkable I mean the places where my fave drams shoot, haha). I would really love to see that life-size Jang Geun Suk, I might even bring it back here in the Philippines so that he could be with me even if he’s only a cardboard picture. haha
Anyway, thanks for sharing your experiences while you’re there! ^^
